#ChewsRescue

Barkworthies is covering the adoption fees for dogs at Chicago Canine Rescue and One Tail at a Time as part of their #ChewsRescue initiative for Adopt A Shelter Pet Day

April 30 is National Adopt-A-Shelter-Pet Day! According to the ASPCA approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide every year. Of those, almost 2.7 million are euthanized. An animal is euthanized every 13 seconds in the United States. In spite of such grim statistics only 29% of Americans looking for a pet choose to adopt form a shelter or rescue.

#ChewsRescue

Barkworthies wants to help more rescue dogs find homes. In celebration of National Adopt-A-Shelter-Pet Day and their #ChewsRescue initiative, the company will cover the adoption fees for eligible dogs from three rescues - Chicago Canine Rescue, One Tail at a Time, and Austin Pets Alive - all weekend long. Barkworthies chose rescues in Chicago and Austin because both cities are known for being extremely dog friendly.

Barkworthies launched #ChewsRescue last year, and as part of the program, contributed $13,000 as well as significant product to the Richmond Animal League.

The company also went through a rebranding in 2015 and as a result all packaging and marketing materials include shelter dogs as models."We see ourselves as an innovative brand with a big heart," says Timothy Fabits, VP of Sales, Barkworthies.

That's awesome. Dexter loves Barkworthy's duck feet! They are the perfect size for him and nice and crunchy.

That's awesome the Barkworthy's is covering adoption fees! We're huge advocates of adoption! I had no idea that the percentage of people who rescue was still that small. Ugh. Hopefully with education it will become the majority!

It is wonderful to promote adoption. Often it is the dog that saves the parent, but the parent needs to take the first step.

I love that their marketing materials include shelter dogs as models! It is very sad that so many people don't look to shelters or rescues when they want a dog - they don't realize there is a rescue organization for nearly every breed of dog out there! No need to shop, if you can adopt.

Every 13 seconds....that's sobering. Wish people would THINK before getting a pet, and spay them. So sad. But we're happy there are people out there trying to help.

I hope the adoption weekend is successful and many pets find good new homes. Mr. N is chewing on a salmon chew from them now.

We hope there are lots of adoptions. It's so sad to hear those statistics of the animals that never make it out of the shelters. :(

We always get rescue cats. Right now dogs are a different story at our house, but we all come from very good breeders.

We are praying that there are big adoptions this weekend. We are all adopted and Mom would adopt more if it was prudent/affordable/legal but Mom also wants to be a responsible pet mom. We are going to check those treats out.

What a great way to celebrate and help shelter pets. Kilo the Pug would #chewsrescue too (and he loves treats). I love the fact that they are donating, promoting rescue and featuring rescue models.

I had no idea that those that rescue were still such a minority. Wow.... surprising given how much promotion I see. Crazy. Mind you I'm one to talk ... Montecristo was not a rescue so ... mia culpa.

I love seeing companies helping out. I'm even more thrilled to see they also have products that are worth buying. I find it very painful when one is in a place between choosing to not help or buying a crappy product.

Our cats love treats, and every one of them is a rescue cat I am glad to say. How can you not want to adopt a rescue, you can even get pedigree rescues can't you!!!

Really hoping that this year's Adopt A Shelter Pet Day is even more successful than last year! I love that Barkworthies is joining the effort to spread the word about how wonderful shelter pets are and how many of them need homes.

I hope they are able to help a lot of homeless pets! I love that they use an adoptable pet on each of their packages. That is something that really makes their products stand out on the shelf. :) The treats sound really yummy too!

Barkworthies has stepped up in a great way to help pets get adopted! So hard to believe only 29% of pets are through adoption. Has there been info to indicate why that percentage is so low, I wonder?
