Dog Friendly Laumeier Sculpture Park

dog friendly Laumeier Sculpture Park

While passing through St. Louis this weekend, we discovered (by accident) the super cool Laumeier Sculpture Park, a 105-acre open-air, free museum located in Sunset Hills, Missouri. The park is a beautiful space where visitors experience art in the natural world - and it's dog friendly!

The park houses over 60 outdoor sculptures as well as an indoor gallery. A full list of artists and sculptures can be found hereThere are many contemporary works on the main grounds, but also wooded trails with art tucked into the trees. We visited the park on Saturday afternoon and although we passed other people and dogs, the trails were quiet and not at all overcrowded.

Some of the artwork is even made specifically for dogs to explore. Finnish artist, Tea Makipaa, created Not Without My Dog, a dog village made up of five building structures that highlight a dog's sense of smell, sound, and sight.

Ruby chillin' in some cool art.

While Ruby loved the dog size houses and buildings, we loved Johann Feilacher's Redwood.

Fortunately, Ruby wasn't fooled into thinking this was a real tree.

We only spent a few hours at Laumeier Sculpture Park as we were on our way back to Chicago and had about six more hours to go. I would love to go back and explore all the trails and highly recommend a visit for others passing through St. Louis with their dogs.  Follow us on Instagram to see more photos from our visit.

Special Note: I usually photoshop Ruby's leash out of pictures. I think it distracts from the photographs and I am kind of weird about that. However, she is leashed at all times when out in public.

We love parks - Charleston has plenty but we've got to wait until the weather cools down a bit. It's just too hot for a walk right now.

That's really cool. I like places that are pet friendly and like them even better when they cater to pets. I've never even thought about not seeing Ruby's leash in the photos but now me and mom will be looking closer to see if can tell where the photoshop to place. We're weird in that way.

Aroo to you,
Sully

The outdoor sculpture park near us is dog friendly, too. It seems to be a great venue for dogs as long as their owners are responsible and thus keep the people who run them open to the idea.

Thanks for sharing another venue to visit.

Very cool! I wish we had something similar here. There was talk of a dog park several years ago but it never came to fruition.
