The Court Case Dogs of Chicago

special needs dog adoption court case dog
Court Case Dog Jambalaya was rescued with seven other dogs from a location known for dog fighting. She was recently adopted!
A few weeks ago I told you about Safe Humane Chicago's Court Case Dogs.  Court case dogs are victims of severe neglect and abuse who have been rescued by police or animal control officers and are part of criminal court cases against their abusers. In the past, these animals were considered little more than evidence. They lived in cages with little human interaction until their cases were settled and then were typically euthanized. Ruby is a court case dog and I'm also volunteer with Safe Humane Chicago.

But thanks to Safe Humane Chicago these dogs (and cats) have a second chance. Staff and volunteers engage, socialize, and train them to be family companions. Once their cases are settled, Safe Humane Chicago transfers them to partner shelters and rescue groups for adoption. All court case dogs, like Ruby, receive a lifetime of behavioral support through the program.

In addition to the Court Case Dog Program, Safe Humane trains youth leaders to speak in schools about dog safety and compassion for animals, and partners veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with court case dogs to help both achieve emotional healing.

Thought I would share Safe Humane's new video. It's inspiring, filled with adorable dogs and guaranteed to make you smile. If you would like to make a donation to help dogs like Jambalaya, you can do so here.

  2. Jambalaya...what a wonderful name for a precious little face. We are so glad he has
a furever home. We recently had a dog fighting ring broken up. If I live to 1000 I'll never understand the mentality that goes with any kind of animal abuse BUT dog fighting...horrid.

  4. That is such a great video and a great thing that organization does for those dogs. It is so sad that most of the dogs are Pitt Bull or mixed pitt Bull. So thankful for all the people that are helping these dogs.

  6. It's so sad that those poor pups were treated so badly before!! LBR has had a few fosters that are going through the legal system. Their foster pawrents sometimes have to testify about the condition of the dog when they received it and how their health has improved (or not!) since they've had it.
