Diamonds in the Ruff #BtC4A

Safe Humane Chicago Diamonds in the Ruff

As many long-time followers may remember, Ruby was removed from her former home along with several other dogs because of severe neglect. New followers can read her story here

Ruby is part of Safe Humane Chicago's Court Case Dog ProgramCourt case dogs are victims of severe neglect and abuse who have been rescued by police or animal control officers and are part of criminal court cases against their abusers. In the past, these animals were considered little more than evidence. They lived in cages with little human interaction until their cases were settled and then were typically euthanized.

But thanks to Safe Humane Chicago these dogs (and cats) have a second chance. Staff and volunteers engage, socialize, and train them to be family companions. Once their cases are settled, Safe Humane Chicago transfers them to partner shelters and rescue groups for adoption. All court case dogs, like Ruby, receive a lifetime of behavioral support through the program.

Safe Humane Chicago Diamonds in the Ruff
Jambalaya, another Court Case Dog. was rescued with seven other dogs from a location known for dog fighting. She was recently adopted!
In addition to the Court Case Dog Program, Safe Humane trains youth leaders to speak in schools about dog safety and compassion for animals, and partners veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with court case dogs to help both achieve emotional healing.

Safe Humane Chicago is truly a one-of-a-kind organization that helps some of the most traumatized, abused and neglected dogs in Chicago through innovative programs that foster compassion and celebrate the human-animal connection. And now you can help dogs like Ruby and Jambalaya get a second chance by supporting Safe Humane's annual fundraiser, Diamonds in the Ruff.

If you are in Chicago and would like to attend, you can purchase tickets here. If you are not in Chicago, but would still like to support the organization that saved Ruby and so many others, please make a donation or buy a raffle ticket here. If you are not able to donate, please share on Twitter and Facebook.

You can also learn more about the Court Case Dog Program by watching the video below or by following Safe Humane Chicago on Facebook.

I am so glad these animals will be treated with care and love as they pets they are. In Pennsylvania we passed a law that requires the accused to pay the costs of care for pets held for cases so that smaller municipalities and areas without a shelter don't have to bear the cost.

Wow, this is so awesome! It's sad that dogs would be euthanized after a court case, like they were just props. I'm glad that Safe Humane Chicago is also for cats. Thank you so much for sharing!

Cats can also be affected by being part of court cases. When I worked in our local humane society, I didn't bring my dogs to work so I would often house cats in my office that were being held as part of court cases. Instead of being left in a small cage for months the cats lived in my office and had the luxury of interacting with me and the many volunteers that also worked in my office. It was a wonderful way to get my kitty fix (as my husband isn't a fan of cats) and help to enrich the life of these wonderful cats. A couple of them lived in my office for about a year each. It was tough to let them go but I made sure they went to hand picked homes.

I love this for so many reasons. First, finally animal abusers are being prosecuted! Also, because this organization is helping give these innocent animals a chance to understand what a forever family feels like. I'm sharing and will donate in the VERY NEAR future ASAP! Thank you for sharing with us!
