We are back from our very first road trip with Ruby. We will share details later in the week, but here's a quick run down.
We traveled from Illinois to Massachusetts with multiple stops along the way. Ruby road safely in a car harness, but during breaks she liked to hop up in the back window and look out at the world. She was the perfect traveler and seemed to love the adventure of discovering new places each day.
Before we left, she had a quick check up with her veterinarian. We made sure to pack her medication and prescriptions, favorite bed and a few comfort items, leash and harness, food, dishes, and utensils. During the trip, she was leashed at all times and we were always cautious when meeting new dogs and people in case she was nervous - which she wasn't.
Because Ruby has now transitioned completely to Primal Freeze Dried Formulas packing her food was super easy. Freeze dried food weighs much less than traditional kibble or canned dog food and is perfect for traveling. Aside from a few stray french fries which she nabbed by accident, we were very careful about not altering her diet on the trip to avoid any stomach upset. (Tune in next Monday for a complete wrap up on Ruby's transition to a raw diet)
