Farewell For Now ...

My dearest friends,

Sometimes things don’t go as planned …

The last few days have been very difficult. I have had trouble breathing, walking, and even eating. My family hoped I would rally as I have so many other times. But not this time …

We visited my vet yesterday afternoon. She felt my latest symptoms were a result of something neurological, possibly a stroke. My body was shutting down and my quality of life decreasing rapidly. She sent us home with some pain medication to help me sleep and remain comfortable over night. My family and I spent last night curled up together on the couch, remembering all the wonderful moments we have shared together. I even enjoyed a mini-cheeseburger (a real one this time). We all agreed that it was time for me to go. I insisted that I could hang on if they needed me, but they assured me that it was OK to let go.

My friends, I have lived an extraordinary life filled with love and laughter, naps on the couch, fancy clothing, and lots and lots of treats. My family has included me in everything – all life events, big and small, joys and sadness, beginnings and endings. What more could a dog or anyone want? Maybe more cheeseburgers, but I trust there will be many waiting for me on the other side …

In addition to my family, I have ALL OF YOU – friends from near and far, Scotland, England, Italy, Hungary, France, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and almost every state in U.S. Through you I have experienced the best in the world – you have given me hope and shown me what is possible when people support and accept each other in spite of differences and distance. Thank you! Your support of my blog has meant more to my family than you will ever know!

I want to leave you with a few of my favorite quotes. These are words that my family and I will hold dear in the days ahead.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or felt or even touched – they must be felt with the heart - Helen Keller

Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree - Martin Luther

When life gives you lemons, eat ice cream - Mr. Pip (that's me)

By the time you read this, I will have crossed the bridge. And tonight when you gaze at the stars, think of me and know that I am shining down on all of you – between bites of heavenly cheeseburgers.

Thank you for the years of love and laughter.

Your pal, Pip

Oh Pip. Since I heard the sad news that you'd left us from Kristin on FB last night I'd held it together - but the final pic of you and the John Lennon lyric tipped me over into tears. But I'm only crying for those of us here who will miss you and your lovely pictures and your fantastic blog adventures. And because I know how much your family will miss you. They gave you so much love and security after your rocky start in life. They must have restored your faith in human nature and you gave them back so much love, many times over. I know you'd been ill for a long time and I remember last Christmas when we lost Winnie it looked like you might be going too. But I think it was the amazing bond of love between you and your family that kept you here so long. I know they always had your best interests at heart and would never let you suffer. You've done so much in your lifetime here to raise the profile of animal rescues and good causes. You've earned your rest. Go run free Pip, and shine on with the moon and the stars and the sun. xxxx

But I also know that you're not really gone and that every time I eat a cheezburger, I'll be eating a little piece of you. Er, wait, that didn't come out right. I meant that there's a little bit of you in every cheezburger. No...that still doesn't sound right. But, well, I know you know what I mean.

I hope you're having a great time at the Rainbow Bridge and I hope that you found Cap'n Ripley and our other furends and they're showing you the ropes. Try not to worry too much abouts your family. I am heartbroken by his loss. Mr. Pip always brought a huge smile to my heart, and always made Suka's tail wag with happiness. We loved reading Mr. Pip's clever, witty, and very funny posts, and especially loved how he was always so happy and positive. And after Suka's passing, a stop by Mr. Pip's blog always made me feel better. He helped me through some difficult days.

I will miss Mr. Pip greatly. He was certainly one of a kind.

I read about this through Noodles' blog and had to give my condolences. Around the same time that Pip and Gracie Lynn passed, my two dogs from childhood and teenage years came to me in a dream and led me through dark halls with other dogs. When we got to the other side, the dogs ran to towards the grass and towards dogs that were already there. I told Gracie Lynn's mommy that Gracie must have been there in the halls with me and the other dogs. I'm sure that Pip was there too.

Ever since that dream happened, I decided to host a blog event on October 30 titled, "To My Angel(s)" as a tribute to my two dogs that visited me in the dream and to anyone who has animal companions that have also passed. If you'd like to try it out, you are more than welcomed to join. Here is the link with all the information in case you'd like to participate:

I think it's important to remember that our animal companions that have passed never really left us, and my two dogs proved that to me in a dream. They just showed me where they now live and how they help other animals cross as well. I hope this was helpful for you and I will pray for Pip.<3

Oh Mr. Pip, where would we be if without your awesome Cheeseburger adventures. We are truly saddened by your passing. We pray that you are in a happier place where Cheeseburgers sprout from geysers.
