Talking Water Bowls

A few weeks ago, I won this lovely Petmate Deluxe Pet Fountain from Pet Blogs United. My assistant was super excited because now that I am on Lasix, it is really important that I stay hydrated. Perfect timing, right? Fresh, clean water, all the time.

There's only one catch ...I'll only drink from it when it is turned off.

The second she turns the filter on, I kind of freak. Oh, and Rosie hisses and growls at it. The filter makes a buzzing sound (which my assistant finds relaxing), but we are just not used to water bowls that talk back. Apparently, we are NOT giving up on the fountain because it is "good for us" and she thinks we'll get used to it. But I am thinking if she likes it so much, she should use it ...and give us back our old (silent) stainless steel water bowls.

My dear friend Sallie is facing a major health crisis and desperately needs help - good vibes and prayers as well as green papers if you have any to spare. Please help in any way you can - the poor girl is now blind as a result of complications from diabetes and requires around the clock care. Her assistant is worried sick and needs our love and support!

Your comments, good wishes, and prayers have meant so much to me and my family and I hope you will now extend your kindness to Sallie and her family.

Thank you to Ann at Zoolatry for this beautiful badge! I'm still hanging in there!

  3. Pip, I was just going to say maybe your assistant should leave the sink on for you so you always have fresh water (we did that for alex) but then I realized you aren't a cat...

But in the end when Alex couldn't jump anymore we laid out benches and boxes for him to climb on... Maybe your assistant can try something like that for you?

  5. We did the same thing but we just 'waited' the mom out and eventually it became a nice normal water bowl:)

  6. We have one of those talking water bowls, too, but ours is a different shape. I find it relaxing and a bit Zenlike. What if your mom put beer in it for a day?

  7. I have nothing to say about your talking water dish. I have never had one. But I find my little stainless steel one quite adequate (and also silent). Weird noises can be fretful, and hard to get used to.
We are still cheering for you (and praying and all that other good stuff). Please be as well as you can!

  8. OMD OMD Pip WHAT is the Talking Water Bowl SAYING? Is it telling you to leave it alone?
WE would be afraid of that thingy too. Maybe you could try making FURENDS with it Or asking it to SING instead of talk.
    We love your badge.

HEY.... maybe your Talking Waters is just trying to get to know you.

  10. You got a talking bowl. Pip would like that as she drinks 87 gazillion gallons a day and she don't hear too good anymore so the buzzing would not bother her. How are you dear Pip? You take it easy and stay warm my friend. Have a marvelous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  25. It is so like you, my good friend, to think of others when you are dealing with your own medical issues. Your kindness is just one of the many reasons why you have touched so many hearts.

Between you and me, I think we should all lay off the cheetos and beer for awhile. The doctor didn't say anything about space martinis!

  26. So sad to hear about sweet Sallie! Will go by there as soon as I leave this comment.

We have a water container thingy that sort of "talks," too. It's not a constant talking, but it does bubble up every so often and scare the dogs. Well, it scared them at first, but now they're used to it and will even drink out of it while it's bubbling!

So tell your Mom person to not give up hope, you will EVENTUALLY get used to it!

  41. Our scaredy girl, Shyla, wants to reassure you. She is afraid of so many things that you'd think that the talking water bowl would freak her out. Well, we were in a pet store, and there was one of those fountains going (just like yours). Shyla walked straight over to it and started drinking - no hesitation. I almost fell over from surprise.

So, Mr. Pip, if Shyla can do it, so can you!!!! You are so brave compared to her - Go. Pip, Go!

I can't believe a guy like you would let a water bowl WIN. What you want to do is go up to it, give it a razzberry (Pfffssst!) and have a good drink out of it. Maybe leave a little dog spit in there. Just get back at him and BE The BOSS!

  46. LICK this problem, old friend! hahahahha We hate things talking at us (don't even ask about the stupid singing dog someone gave us once as a stuffie)but it just seems like you are way too smart to let the hum hang you up.

You are a strong stubborn fighter and have LOTS of support and love surrounding you. No one really knows how much time they have, heck they told my dad that momma was never going out of the hospital alive when she has congestive heart failure and it has been years now...and she is MUCH wimpier that you are! Use her motto: NEVER SURRENDER! The entire WDA is sending its most powerful healing energy and positive thoughts.

We feel just awful about poor Sallie and have sent a bit to help. You are always there for others...that is one of the bestest things about you!

We have been over to see Sallie, that poor doggie. We suggested that she put up a Chip-in on the side bar. I would offer to do an auction for her but I don't think it would do very well. Let me know what you think.

  57. Well, you know what they say, Pip. You can lead a dog (or a kitteh) to water, but you can't make 'em drink out of something that makes weird noises. Um, I think that's how it goes, anyway. I hope you get used to it but sounds like even if you don't, it'll help relax your mom so that's worth a bunch right there!
