Life Lessons with Mr. Pip

As you all know, we recently made the move from the big city to the suburbs. There have been some life adjustments for all of us - like how to fall asleep when it is SO QUIET!

Somebody, PLEASE set off a car alarm so I can get some shut-eye.

Now, my mom has many fine attributes - she's generous, hard-working, and super brave to the point of being crazy. She has traveled overseas by herself, moved to NYC without a dime to her name, etc. But when it comes to everyday tasks, she is clueless. That's the thing about living in cities, you don't really have to do ANYTHING for yourself because there is always someone there to do it for you. Not true, in the rest of the world.

So, for the next few Mondays, I'm going to help my mom adjust to life in "the real world" by sharing some basic life lessons.

Life Lesson One - Making Coffee. Now, my mom drinks LOTS of coffee, but she doesn't actually know how to make it - although she's quite good at ordering it!

First Step - Read Directions. My mom's not big on reading directions so this step make take some extra time.

Step 2: Pause mid-air to impress the ladies with superhero form.

Step 3: Open lid

Step 4: Add coffee.

Helpful Hint: Take coffee out of can BEFORE adding. Who knew?

Step 5: Add water and close lid.

This concludes Life Lessons with Mr. Pip, Week 1. Tune in next Monday for even more good times.

  42. Pip - you have followers who speak a foreign language. Did you know that? No hablo espanol. It is espanol, isn't it? Now about this coffee making business... wow, is there no end to your talents???

  43. Today we had to weed the lawn becaue our HOA said it was too much. Forgot we don't live in a big city with no front yard anymore...

Stop on by for a visit

  44. What! No Starbucks in your suburb?..Haha!
How far out did you move? It's a good thing that you are there to help, Pip.

  45. Wow, Pip, we are very impressed with our life skills. Do you know how to make a good cup of tea? Our Mom loves a good cup of hot tea, but she is always complaining that it just doesn't hit the spot!

Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  46. Pip,

We lives in da 'burbs but our street is a busy one so we is use to noise too. :) Our mom needs "white noise" to sleep, her doesn't like it when it is quiet. See you at da pawty!

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae and Max

  47. Oh Pip, what a handsome helper you are. Thank goodness your Momma has you! LOL!

  48. Hi Pip
You are so smart! I just cannot believe it! What a big help you are to your momma! Thank goodness that you know how to read directions and follow them!
Your a big help for sure.
Now you need more treats,, errr, I mean a cheeseburger!

  49. Wow. Mom makes coffee afore her feet hit the floor in the morning but I nefur akshually knew furstpaw how it woz done. I may need to assist her on those mornings when she messes up making the coffee coz she still be half asleep so this informashun do be furry helpful. Like sometimes she gets hawt water with no coffee in it. Udder times she furgets to put the cup in the machine and we has a coffee waterfall down the cabinets... Sigh.

  50. Pip, first I must ask how your diet is going and if you are feeling better. You look like you are doing great.

Secondly, The lesson on making coffee was good, but My Vickie is waiting for the one on how to level the toilet.

This country living is difficult sometimes......

  51. Hey Pip!
Coffe making 101! Who knew you knew! Me is very impressed!

  52. That is a great Life Lesson Mr Pip! Really it is because I don't know how to make coffee!

  53. I'm with Wyatt on this one. I got news for you Mr. Pip, if there is not a Starbucks around the corner most likely you don't live in the burbs. You have been transported to the moon.
    Sweet William The Scot

Psss ~ You need more proof that rocketship of a grooming van thats the transport.

  54. Them backwoods living is shooore different then that city slicker living, ain't it??

Hope your momma figure out that coffee machine before she really started wigging out!! :)

  55. Pip, thank goodness your mum has you to help her. Sheesh, we hate to think how she would cope without you little buddy. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  56. Hey, Mr. Pipinski! You look sooo handsome in your new haircut and your black jacket, you could get by with telling your Mom almost anything.

    Keep up the excellent work!

    Your Pal,

    Stella from Up Over

  57. What a great idea! When our mom, the coffee fiend, lived in Manhattan she couldnt make coffee either. She would just go right outside the door and down the blog and buy some. When we moved to Jersey City she had to learn to make her own. Yikes! There were several disasters.

We are jealous that you moved to the 'burbs even though we are the urban hounds we wold love to move to the suburbs or the country and get a nice big yard. WE stay in JC b ecause its a shorter commute for mom and dad so we are not alone as long. They say a total move and career switch out of NYC would be impractical for mom at this point, something about union benefits and an early retirement plan.

  58. Happy Valentine's Day Pip!! Again, do you know how adorable you are? What a nice little boy you are to help out your mom. We went through the same thing when we moved from a Los Angeles suburb (where we lived our whole lives) to out in the country in Missouri. So many things to learn about the country life. Talk about culture shock! After six years we now live in a Phoenix suburb. Now it wasn't because we didn't love the country life, because we did, we just couldn't handle the cold and the snow. Anyway, I'm excited to see all your life lessons - especially with your adorable pictures!

  59. So that is how you make coffee....

See you at the V-Day party!

  60. Allie: *dreamy sigh* ooooh you have SUPERhero powers!

FaRADaY: yeah yeah, let's get to the GOOD stuff, Allie. Yoo TOTALLY rocked it, Pip, tellin' Mom how ta work the percolaty thing. (was it drinkable?)

  61. Does you knows theres is a pawty goin' on? We can't has a pwty withouts Pip!

    WHERES YOU AT???????

  62. Uh-oh, sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you to train your mom to survive in the suburbs. Hang in there.

  63. Just what would your mom do without you? Maybe instead of teaching her to make coffee, you could just make it FOR her...nah!

  64. Happy Valentine's Day to you my sweet handsome brown-eyed man
    Hugs Madi

  65. There you are! *Hiccup*

Hmm....Why are there two of you? Did you play with my cloning machine?

    I make the best martinis.

  66. Coffee Martini coming up!

    Here are the directions:

Pour your vodka into a shaker 1/2 full with cracked ice and shake a few times. (You can make ice with caffeinated water if you like).
Pour in Kahlua and stir gently to mix and while stirring slowly pour in your espresso.
Strain into two frozen martini glasses.
Add three COFFEE BEAN to each glass for garnish.
    Serve with a CHEETO!

  67. OMDogness my sweet Friend!

That being woofed, I am not female (obviously) but even I am furry impressed by your mid-air pause. Great poise! I must master that trick!

Kudos to your mom for being so brave and daring! And kudos to you for helping your mom adjust to normal, everyday life. You rock, Pip!

  71. You are a wealth of information Pip!! I'm not a coffee drinker, and try to avoid making it, as I don't like the aroma, (weird, I know) but I have seen it made many a time, and I was super impressed by your mid-air-pause. Nice!!
