Life Lessons with Mr. Pip

As you all know, we recently made the move from the big city to the suburbs. There have been some life adjustments for all of us - like how to fall asleep when it is SO QUIET!

Somebody, PLEASE set off a car alarm so I can get some shut-eye.

Now, my mom has many fine attributes - she's generous, hard-working, and super brave to the point of being crazy. She has traveled overseas by herself, moved to NYC without a dime to her name, etc. But when it comes to everyday tasks, she is clueless. That's the thing about living in cities, you don't really have to do ANYTHING for yourself because there is always someone there to do it for you. Not true, in the rest of the world.

So, for the next few Mondays, I'm going to help my mom adjust to life in "the real world" by sharing some basic life lessons.

Life Lesson One - Making Coffee. Now, my mom drinks LOTS of coffee, but she doesn't actually know how to make it - although she's quite good at ordering it!

First Step - Read Directions. My mom's not big on reading directions so this step make take some extra time.

Step 2: Pause mid-air to impress the ladies with superhero form.

Step 3: Open lid

Step 4: Add coffee.

Helpful Hint: Take coffee out of can BEFORE adding. Who knew?

Step 5: Add water and close lid.

This concludes Life Lessons with Mr. Pip, Week 1. Tune in next Monday for even more good times.

Your Mama sounds a lot like ours. She crossed Canada with little money and started school a day before the program started without even having a place to live or knowing anyone!
Then she did it again when she studied in France (not a fast learner..)She also can't make coffee or cook. AND she had to adjust the opposite of your quiet by falling asleep WITH car alarms and ambulances and people cussin cause she lives in the city on a busy street now...
Pip you sure look sweeter than sugar in your little coat and we learned how to make coffee!!

Hee hee! You mean there's no Starbuck's around the corner now? I'm surprised your mom doesn't have one of those fancy K-cup coffee makers that are all the rage. My humans don't drink coffee, so I don't have to worry about teaching them this important life lesson, but I am sure there will be others! I don't know how your mom gets by without you!

P.S. Nice Greyhound stretch there over the coffee machine!

You are so smart, Pip! Maybe I should drop out of college and just pay you to teach me everything I'll ever need to know.

I rather like ordering cappuccinos though so I think I'll skip the coffee making portion. Plus, I'm really good at ordering.

Your new 'do is so cute!

What a great idea! When our mom, the coffee fiend, lived in Manhattan she couldnt make coffee either. She would just go right outside the door and down the blog and buy some. When we moved to Jersey City she had to learn to make her own. Yikes! There were several disasters.

We are jealous that you moved to the 'burbs even though we are the urban hounds we wold love to move to the suburbs or the country and get a nice big yard. WE stay in JC b ecause its a shorter commute for mom and dad so we are not alone as long. They say a total move and career switch out of NYC would be impractical for mom at this point, something about union benefits and an early retirement plan.

Happy Valentine's Day Pip!! Again, do you know how adorable you are? What a nice little boy you are to help out your mom. We went through the same thing when we moved from a Los Angeles suburb (where we lived our whole lives) to out in the country in Missouri. So many things to learn about the country life. Talk about culture shock! After six years we now live in a Phoenix suburb. Now it wasn't because we didn't love the country life, because we did, we just couldn't handle the cold and the snow. Anyway, I'm excited to see all your life lessons - especially with your adorable pictures!

Pour your vodka into a shaker 1/2 full with cracked ice and shake a few times. (You can make ice with caffeinated water if you like).
Pour in Kahlua and stir gently to mix and while stirring slowly pour in your espresso.
Strain into two frozen martini glasses.
Add three COFFEE BEAN to each glass for garnish.
