Lake Superior

So we didn't make it to the Atlantic Ocean this summer to see the whales, but we did swim in Lake Superior - the most wild and ocean-like of the Great Lakes.

Lake Superior has its own lore - mysterious tales of ships disappearing in the night, etc. Now, I don't know about all that, but I can tell you that Lake Superior waters work wonders on arthritis. I don't like to admit it, but I do suffer some age-related pain and stiffness in my back legs. I don't run (don't tell Bunny) and some days I don't even walk very far. But from the moment I put my paws in Lake Superior I was a new dog - running and playing like a puppy.

My 13 year old legs felt great for days after my dip in Lake Superior. In fact, I am thinking we should bottle this stuff and make a million dollars, what do you think?

In other news, Sweet Pea had his second follow up visit this past Saturday. Although he seems to be feeling MUCH BETTER and is eating VERY WELL, the vet is still concerned about some inflammation in his mouth and the possibility of cancer ...we will have biopsy results in a few days. The good news is that he has actually GAINED WEIGHT!

  8. So great to see you like this Pip! Do you get to do this at the beach out here, or are there too many crazy dogs at the beach? So glad to hear Sweet Pea is doing better.

  9. Great news about Sweet Pea feeling better! We hope his biopsy results come back normal.

Lake Superior looks like a ton of fun! Amazing what swimming can do for arthritis. Riley has some arthritis in her hind legs (her hip dysplasia) and she's only 2...so we can only imagine how your arthritis must be at age 13. We're so glad you got some relief for a few days!

Your picture in Lake Superior (or another picture) would make a great entry to my "Keeping It Cool" contest!

Paws crossed for Sweet Pea. Great news on the weight gain, hope the tests come back with a good report.

  13. I'm so glad Sweet Pea is gaining weight!

It's not your imagination, Pip! I have a Greyhound friend who is, ahem, in her senior years and she was having a lot of weakness and pain in her back end. They started taking her to have hydrotherapy and it's worked wonders for her in a short amount of time. They're even seeing some of her muscle mass returning to her back legs. It's working so well, they're thinking about taking all of their senior dogs in for it once a week.

P.S. I know you're just being modest! I've seen you run before and that race was a close call! ;)

  33. I know I've said it before, and will probably say it again, but Pip is ADORABLE!!!! Loved the little video, and seeing him hop about! I didn't realize he's 13 years old. I guess he doesn't act his age a lot here in blogland. ;) Thank you for sharing, and I hope Sweet Pea gets a good report. The weight gain is a good thing for sure.
