How IT Happened

Many have asked how my mom could have been so dumb silly as to drop her new camera in the sand, lens first.

You did WHAT??

Here's what happened ...it was a sunny day (the first in about 87 million months). We decided to take a trip to the beach. We were going to take some photos with the new camera AND film an exciting, action-packed video about rescuing Alien from the Evil Freddy and his pirate thugs. We were in the middle of "the shoot" when the video camera died. Casualty #1.

Full body shot for the ladies in the house ...

About this time, my mom noticed a dog off leash running on the beach. His people were near by, but they didn't seem to be paying much attention to him. All of a sudden, he went after another dog (who was on a leash). We thought he was playing at first, but the other dog started yelping. After what seemed like an eternity, his person finally intervened and pulled him off the frightened dog. But instead of putting him on a leash, the idiot let him loose again!

Now, this made my mom nervous because this dog was much bigger than me. So, she grabbed my leash and my sister's hand and started towards the car - she should have handed the camera to papa, but she wasn't thinking. Well, my sister and I are pretty independent and we both decided to take off in opposite directions (we like to play tug-of-war with her arms). This is when the camera went down, lens first into sand.

Final picture before "the incident". I have my eye on the other dog and his trouble-causing humans. Maybe we should send our camera repair bill to them?

  7. You still never told us what kind of camera you got. If it's one with a big lens on it, you can get a UV filter that doesn't cost too much money. That way, if it gets dropped or scratched or if, say, a certain enthusiastic Shepherd would stick her nose to the lens, you can take that part off and clean it, and if something happens to it you're not out the whole camera. I sure hope you can get it fixed! We can't stand not seeing your handsome face on the blog every day!

  19. This is typical of humans Mr Pip, anything goes wrong and thry try to turn it around and find blame with us poor dogs somewhere! We know that you were ready to be on guard and defend everyone in the area from this bad dog, only you didn't get a chance! ;-) Dex & Lou x

  20. This is even one more reason why dogs shouldn't be let off leash! That happened to Miss M out by that beach; a dog came up and bit her on the cheek and stretched out her entire face and she looked like a cartoon and was crying. Then the person finally came over and made the dog let go.

  21. Wow, that must have been scary! We're sorry about the camera, but super glad that you were not attacked like that other poor dog. :(

  28. Pip, at least you and your Mom have a logical explanation for how the camera dropped in the sand. Our Momster can be standing still and her flashy box might just tumble right out of her hands - no rhyme or reason as to why.

We are so sorry that had to happen and we hope you can get a new one soon. Someone needs to tell those stupid humans to keep their mean dog on a leash.

  32. The happy ending? You and your sister are safe and unharmed. The unhappy ending? The poor camera suffered. The unhappiest ending? The people with the dog off-leash probably didn't learn a thing about proper doggie/beach/off-leash/altercation etiquette.

We're so sorry. But we're glad you're okay.

  33. Yes, George is right, mommy did the right thing as you and your sis mean all the world to her. Don't let this unfortunate incident make you down but tell mommy to cheer up and that she looks so pretty with her sweet smile :)

Mommy says that you look so adorable in your mommy's arms :)

  42. We are glad YOU are safe...that is much more important than a camera! We cannot believe how many pawrents are oblivious to their pups when they take the leash off...it is irresponsible citizenship and could also be dangerous.

  45. You know, Mr. Pip, tell your mom not too feel too bad. I'd JUST gotten my camera back from having it repaired and the first time I went to use it, I dropped it! I'm surprised the screen part didn't break. I hope you can get your camera fixed soon.

That's a great pic of you and your mama.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No worries lil Pip.. i am sure the camera will be fixed soon :) dropping on sand is still better than dropping them on rocks.. hehehehehehe I don't know how SHE comes up with that.. but she says sand is better than rocks.

Love the picture of Pip with you Kristin. A precious memory.

  47. What an absolutely beautiful photo of you and your Mom! So sorry about the camera accident...I was cringing as I was reading it...hopefully, the repair bill will not be too big. I think sending the bill to that crazy human is a good idea. Maybe the next time they will leash their dog, for his safety and the safety of others (and cameras).

  48. You might has noticed that in my biggified seeniks there do be spots in the pikshure in the same place all the time and we has nefur dropped the camera in the sand so it duss happen spontaneously fur no good reason. But when you do get it fixed, you mite not want to use it in the rain coz you mite get a message on the screen wot says "MALFUNKSHUN! MALFUNKSHUN!" Just woofin. And Pee Ess, if'n I has woofed it once, I has woofed it a gabillion times, it do be coz of stoopid peeples like that wot makes places put up "NO DOGS ALLOWED" signs. Grrrrr.

  49. That is a gorgeous photo of you and your mom!

Yes, send those repair bills to those bad dog owners!

  50. So sorry about the camera, but I'm glad Pip and sis are safe. Shame on those other people for having a dog off leash that obviously should have been leashed. Hugs!

  51. Yikes. Not a good scene. We have a dog who terrorizes Gracie every time we walk down a certain neighborhood street. The peeps let them run free. Gracie actually pulled out of her harness one day trying to get away and boy, did I freak out. Is that Chicago in the back ground? Are you at Lake Michigan?

  52. I'm new to your blog, but I love the picture! And the story! Sorry about the camera though :(
